A little note about our spiral math.

Students have been working on a column of math questions, Monday through Thursday for homework. These Spiral Math questions are meant to review concepts and even introduce new concepts as pre-exposure. These questions have initially come from an American source, where the curriculum differs a bit from Ontario's. I am aware of this, and have gone in and changed some, but have also consciously decided to leave some of the more challenging problems in there. My hope is that they may meet the needs of the stronger math students who need a bit more. As such, there may be questions that your child does not know how to do. I have explained to the students that in this case they are simply to leave it and move on to the next one. They should not get upset or frustrated when not knowing how to do a problem. I have explained to them that I will keep track of homework and record that they are attempting their daily math, but they will not lose any marks for wrong answers or odd ones that were not attempted. I am simply asking them to try. I do not want math to be a source of stress for my students. Please reassure them, as I have done. I am not bothered by mistakes. They are part of the learning process. I am hoping to foster a Growth Mindset within the class, where students are willing to try, and do not lose hope or become paralyzed by "I can't"s. We are all learners in room 22o. Thank you so much for your continual support.
