Tackling Times Tables

As we further explore long division, the students' familiarity (or lack) with basic times tables is even more apparent. Continual review of times tables will keep students in fine form. In this instance, I am a believer in rote learning and continual practice. The Ontario Math Curriculum requires that Grade 4s know up to 9x9. I would like to take them beyond that, up to 12x12. Similarly I would like all grade 6s to know their multiplication tables up to the 12s. Currently, many do not. I will now be adding weekly times table review for homework. Nightly review is a good idea. Students will be tested on times tables each Friday along with their spelling words. This week begins with 2s, 3s and 4s.
I have found that times-table practice with flash cards (answer on back) and a parent can be very effective since the parent becomes aware of where the student is weak. Put aside problems that the student gets stuck on and pay extra attention to those ones in future rounds of review. Free flash cards are found here. Just print, cut, and lightly fill answer out on back. Then practice, practice, practice. Both
Prodigy and Mathletics (link on ocsb student portal)online platforms have multiplication review, as well (we have class accounts for both). A couple of other free online multiplication practice sites are multiplication.com and math playground.com.
