PQP Posting
I'm taking the Principal Qualification Part 1 course. I am an arts educator, so have always embraced creative and divergent thinking, and have never really taken the path most easily travelled. Instead, I have taken the path most interesting and intriguing to me. This includes a career path that has been varied and full of continued learning. I am currently teaching in a Teacher Education Program, and I am the only one in our current PQP class teaching at this level. The other course participants are teachers in either elementary or secondary schools, working directly with the principals or vice principals in their schools. This is expected and makes perfect sense for teachers who believe in strong leadership and see themselves in an administrative role in the future within their board. I am a little different and that is ok. For Gilles Deleuze (1968/1994), difference is imperative to change and is an object of affirmation. I have met wonderful, intelligent, collaborative colleagues through this course. I am learning an enormous amount about leadership practice and education/board policy. I am able to take this back to my teacher candidates who are particularly interested in administrative perspectives and practices throughout their teacher certification journey. Regardless of whether this course will navigate me toward an administrative position, its value for me lies in the new perspectives and new knowledge that I can apply to my leadership role as an educator in any capacity.
